I think the newest Inkscape has some Life Path Effects in that direction. ( Ctrl+Shift+7 > click the + button) The new LPE Fillet/Chamfer will do the rounded corners on a line. You can make the line thicker. Later on you can change the line to a path with a stroke through menu > path > stroke to path. That is not a life effect.

Other option is using a raster editor program like gimp. Or even better a 3D program like blender. WebJun 2, 2016 · As you can see in your LPE list, you also got the 'Power Stroke' on. Look for the pink node (while Power Stroke is selected) and adjust it with the Node Tool. That should take care of the thickness of the tapered line.
